Tasting Notes

Much of the classic Bordeaux aromas to be found here - clay, gravel, and earth, with cinnamon stick and red & black currants. The palate is a marriage of fruit and soil, with bittersweet chocolate, cigar wrapper and black truffles taking precedent, but balanced well with dark berry and currant notes. It has a savory, earth-driven finish with firm tannins.

The Canon-Fronsac appellation is centered around the town of Fronsac on the Dordogne River, northwest of Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. They produce only red wines, typically from a base of Cabernet Franc with small amounts of Merlot. Canon-Fronsac wines are known to be big and full-flavored, with firm tannin structure that may benefit from aging. It generally produces fuller-bodied and more complex wines. The improved quality of recent vintages over the last decade and a new, softer style produced by the latest generation of winemakers have created renewed interest in wines from the Fronsac area. This thriving appellation is producing some of the best values in Bordeaux!
