Tasting Notes

Aromas of lime, mandarin, grapefruit, and pineapple. The palate is complex and fruity, with citrus and tropical notes, a touch a green herbs, and a creamy palate.

Southwest France stands for exciting wine from varieties that are often unknown in Germany. The Jegerlhener-Prataviere family passionately operates the Domain de Ménard winery in the historic province of Gascogne. Jean Francois Morel laid the foundation for the company in 1920. The winemaker, who came from Switzerland, grew the first wines on ten hectares. Today, the family business cultivates grape varieties in a 120-hectare area. In autumn, the fruits of the mainly white varieties are harvested - at night. This prevents the daily heat from having a negative effect on the fruits, the grapes remain fresh and do not lose any juice. The result is wonderful aromatic wines with their own character. The vineyards of Domain de Ménards are located in a terroir of excellent quality. The area has calcareous clay soils. These have in some places a high proportion of sand, because the landscape was completely covered in the prehistoric times by the sea. To this day, fossils of shells or fish are found in the area. The Ugnis Blanc is one of the oldest grape varieties in France grown here. The varieties Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng mature extremely slowly and are harvested late. The family skilfully turns the aromatic grapes of the region into multifaceted wines with citrus notes.
