Tasting Notes

Aromas of fresh blackberry, plum, and wild fennel, complemented with toasty oak notes of allspice and cocoa. A juicy, plummy palate yields to a lighter finish with perky acidity and well integrated tannins.

Travel just west of Saratoga, California, and you'll find the Eden Estate vineyards nestled among the oaks at the base of storied Mt. Eden. Heavy clay soil and limestone lend a rich, dense, and vibrant yet concentrated palate to the estate-grown wines. Warm days and cool evenings in the valley, where the fruit is protected from the wind, result in an intense fruit character and natural acidity. The proprietor, John Couch, is a pioneer of the American tech boom and is most well known as one of the top executives at Apple. His career began as a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard and was then hired by Steve Jobs as the 54th employee of Apple in 1978 and in 1979 became Apple’s first Vice President of Software. Inspired by his passion for Cabernet Sauvignon and his Italian heritage, Couch purchased the property in the backyard of Silicon Valley and built the winery from the ground up.
