Tasting Notes

Aromas of blueberry, black cherry, plum, mocha, cinnamon stick and vanilla bean. The palate presents a very fresh initial sensation of bright acidity, followed with a fruit and creamy body with flavors of chocolate covered blueberries, ripe raspberry, and violets, with a long and creamy finish of vanilla and baking spices

George Hendry and his family have grown grapes on the same family farm in Napa Valley since 1939. Through eighty years of harvests, our connection to the land has deepened, and our knowledge has grown. Hendry Ranch is composed of 203 acres situated in the low, rolling hills just northwest of Napa, at the foot of Mt. Veeder, and includes 114 acres under vine. This location in the valley experiences substantial marine influence, allowing us to grow more than a dozen different types of wine grapes. All Hendry wines are made only from estate grapes, and are crafted to highlight the unique terroir of this very special vineyard. Primitivo may be a “new” variety to many, but its roots go back hundreds of years to Croatia, where it originated, along with its more familiar genetic twin: Zinfandel. Zinfandel and Primitivo share common parentage, and are essentially synonymous, though Primitivo is associated with Puglia, Italy, where it is commonly grown, and Zinfandel with California.
