Tasting Notes

Aromas of bright lemon, bruised apple, cheese rind and honey dew melon. The palate that features touch of tropical fruit and melon with classic honeyed waxy tones and mouth watering acid. The Agter-Paarl area is the ideal region for growing Chenin Blanc and our farmers have the largest collection of old vine Chenin Blanc in the country. To do justice to the excellent bush vine (un-trellised) grapes, we only use free-run juice – we don't press the grape skins – and we leave the Chenin Blanc on its lees for three to four months before bottling for a richer, fuller mouthfeel. We call this our 'sweet and sour' wine - the acidity and sweetness are perfectly balanced. We've been told many times that this is a wine you taste and immediately love - and who are we to disagree?

Notes from the winemaker: MAN wines are distinctive, modern-style wines with a touch of Old World elegance. We call them "daily wines for wine geeks." We’re focussed on producing a range of varietal wines sourced from one fantastic region (the Agter-Paarl area) that offer "bang for your buck!" Great talent deserves great rewards. Well, so we thought when we realised that excellent grape farmers in the Perdeberg area in Agter-Paarl were producing high quality grapes for the bulk wine market. So we made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Today 30 farmers produce 95% of our fruit, and they are now shareholders in MAN Family Wines too. We source a small amount of grapes from cooler regions, such as the Sauvignon Blanc from the Stellenbosch area for our Warrelwind Sauvignon Blanc, but at the heart of all of our wines are the Agter-Paarl grapes. Partners with José and Tyrrel, 30 farmers in the Agter-Paarl region provide us with over 95% of our grapes. Almost 80% of their vineyards are un-irrigated, low-yielding vineyards, and 52% of the vineyards are un-trellised "bush vines." Grown on Malmesbury shale and decomposed granite soils, these vineyards produce distinctive, concentrated and flavourful wines. And because we care about more than just the grapes, our growers are all accredited as environmentally sustainable and socially responsible farmers by the South African Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme and the South African Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association (WIETA). In other words: they're regularly audited to make sure that they're looking after the environment, their staff and themselves. On the neck of our bottles there is a seal certifying the integrity and sustainability of our wines." - MAN Family Vineyards Website
